2008 VILLAGE SHOW HIGHLIGHT OF WINNING YEAR FOR CADDINGTON

The sun shone on Caddington on Saturday as residents turned up to see local celebrity Billy Schwer, former British, Commonwealth, European and IBO World Title boxing champion, cut the ribbon opening the 6th Caddington Village Show.

The show has been steadily expanding, and this year was the biggest yet with a hog roast, brass band, Caddington Blues morris dancers, free puppet shows, and on the green an 8 feet high climbing wall and fairground rides.  For the adults, there was a pampering tent with massage and reflexology, 21 different craft stalls, and of course the ever popular Pimms tent.

Still at the heart of the event is the produce show, and the overall winner and holder of the Maurice Martin trophy for a year is Judy Woodward.  The dog show, sponsored by Caddington’s Village Groomers, had more entries than ever before, and Best in Show was awarded to Rusty the bearded collie and proud owner Vicky Malone, who won a free pet portrait from Caddington artist Louise Treleaven.

Organisers of the show said they would like to thank all their helpers on the day.  "The support for the event was fantastic, and it's great to see the whole village pulling together like this."

The show was the highlight of a great year for Caddington, which won the Young People category of the Calor Bedfordshire Village of the Year competition, coming 4th overall in Best Village.
